About me

I am a Licensed Master Social Worker who has spent the last 10 years serving clients in different roles. The last 4 years, I have been providing therapeutic services in various settings, including child/adolescent residential homes, inpatient setting, community mental health and in the correction system. I have a passion for working with children and families. What makes social work so stimulating and challenging is every individual is unique. Each story is compelling, presenting opportunities to learn and grow. In terms of therapeutic technique and strategy, one size will never fit all. A social worker must remain in the moment to capitalize on the strengths of each client. Micro level social work is often a journey of self-exploration by the client, meant to increase their level of self-understanding and self-awareness. Social workers merely act as the guide on this captivating journey. On some level of consciousness based on client’s experience in life, I believe the client is in possession of the answers to their questions. My role will be to make those answers explicit, helping clients identify, develop, and mobilize their own resources to successfully solve problems and meet challenges. This client-centered philosophy allows me to help individual in a way I have always dreamed of.
I view social work as an extension of human life and know I am blessed to work in a field that makes a difference in the lives of individuals. My desire to help people and my social work practice philosophy, well life philosophy, were formed at a very young age, and have only grown more intense. To explain my view in the most simple form, I will use a story many people have read, “Horton Hears a Who” by Dr. Seuss. An elephant “hears a faint noise coming from a small speck of dust; it seems to him like a tiny person is calling out for help.” He “finds it peculiar that a dust speck could speak so he reasons that there must be a very small creature on it. Without being able to see the creature, he seems to know it is there and that it is his duty to save it from harm.” Met with only disbelief, “he holds tight to what he knows is true and learns from the voice that there exists an entire universe.” When many of my childhood friends and classmates were pretending to be astronauts, professional sport players, or characters from their favorite television show, I fantasized my faith in the unseen and strong inclination to help anyone in need would always match Horton’s. When my fellow human beings may doubt the likelihood of change, it will only spark my passion to try harder and make the impossible, possible.

Just getting started and my case may be a bit extreme for this platform but I don't feel judged and MacKenzie shows a real depth of experience. Into the darkness I go to lose myself and find my soul.

I really enjoy working with MacKenzie. She listens, is supportive, and is very good at helping you come to the conclusion versus her spelling it out for you, which is the point of therapy! I'm excited for my future sessions with her.

Really glad to have been paired up with MacKenzie. She’s very enthusiastic and thorough. My favorite thing is that other therapists/social workers can focus on a lot of parts of your life, but MacKenzie stays strongly focused on the things you truly want to help/fix that brought you to self-help.

She is very welcoming and understanding, it normally takes me a long time to become comfortable with someone and being able to open up and be vulnerable but I grew very comfortable with her within a day or two of talking.

MacKenzie is so understanding and patient. I appreciate that our conversations feel like a collaborative effort to overcome the challenges I face as opposed to someone just telling me what to do.
