Kelsey Pederson

About Me

I am a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Oregon and soon to be in the state of California. I received my Master’s in Social work from Portland State University and also have a certificate in Foster and Adoptive Family Therapy. My therapeutic approach is founded in the belief that all people desire to be fully known and completely accepted for who they are. I believe everyone has value and believe in treating everyone with kindness, respect, empathy, and compassion. My primary vantage point is that people are a part of their environment and all aspects of a person's life shape who they are today. I utilize a relational based approach that incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Trauma Recovery Empowerment Model (TREM), play therapy, motivational interviewing, Life Story work, psychoeducation, and mindfulness practices.

I have worked with teens, young adults, and families at a transitional living program as they transition from one phase of life to the next while challenging and empowering them to leave behind unhealthy practices and discovering who they want to be and what healthy tools they are going to bring with them. There are a lot of changes that occur during the adolescent, teen, and young adult years which can feel scary, unknown, and challenging. I believe healthy change even during uncertainty can occur when trusting relationships, empathy, and a growth mindset are present. I have worked with children, adolescents, and families in foster care by being a safe and reliable person to help them navigate and explore their experiences and create their own life stories. I have worked with children and teens in private practice accompanying them in addressing their problems, developing goals, and building skills to make the changes they desire to make in their life.

I work collaboratively with teens and young adults to help them identify their obstacles, blind spots, strengths, support systems, and goals. This can be anywhere from depression, anxiety, social anxiety, trauma, autism spectrum disorder, and other clinical disorders, to bullying, self esteem, identity, academic challenges, and relational and social challenges. I am passionate about building relationships with people and supporting them in discovering their identity, building healthy relationships, and expanding their life skills. It takes courage to be vulnerable and take a step towards change. It is my honor to be a small part of their journey.
