About Me
I am a Clinical Mental Health Counselor licensed in Utah with over 13 years of experience working as a counselor. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, OCD, addiction, Bipolar Disorder and personality disorders. I also helped many people who have experienced physical trauma or emotional abuse, as well as abandonment issues. I have received some training on betrayal trauma as well.
My counseling style is warm and interactive and I believe to some extent empowering for others. I believe in treating anyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, Dialectic Behavioral, ACT, and rational-emotive counseling. I also use EMDR when appropriate for the counseling situation. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.
I started my career working with teens. I worked with them in a variety of settings to include groups, individual therapy, and family therapy. I understand the world looks and feels different to those who are in their teen years and I am hear to help them navigate through those times.
It takes courage to seek for a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you.
I look forward to working with you!

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Kara Cunningham. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with Teen Counseling might be different.
We are so grateful to Kara and for the help and “tools” she is teaching our challenging daughter. She is able to listen and care about our daughter while also kindly helping her see things she needs to work on. We’re very happy so far.
Kara is absolutely amazing! She listens so well and actually wants to help. I would recommend her 100%.
Kara has been so amazing! She has really helped my relationship to grow!
Kara has been been really helpful in that I’m exploring issues that I haven’t looked at in a long time and is non-judge mental. I really feel like I’m becoming aware of things that I’ve just been hiding.
Ms. Cunningham is very kind and patient with her clients. She listens, asks thought provoking questions, and encourages their thoughts and solutions. I've never felt judged as I've shared some private things about myself and how I think.
Kara is nice, smart Nd thoughtful. She helps me work through my tough emotions and she helps me see clearly when someone is treating me poorly. She is honest with me and I feel I can talk with her.
