About Me

Being a teen can be a source of joy and also a source of frustration. Teens often feel like they are on an emotional rollercoaster- feeling joyous one minute and mood swings the next, feeling peer pressure, and/ or anger, Young men and women are supposed to be social, popular, and have a boyfriend or girlfriend adores them. They are supposed to excel in their studies, get into a good school, get engaged when they graduate and marry the man of their dreams. And of course, live happily ever after. Unfortunately all too often this is not the case and teens feel all sorts of stress, pressures and anxiety.
Therapy can help teens explore the basic issues that they face socially and psychologically It can empower them to make sensible choices and decisions, and can help to foster their self esteem and self confidence.

Therapy with teens can be a fun therapy; it can be a serious therapy. But most of all, it is an empowering therapy.

Dr. Joan Atwood has been a delightful counselor. She recommends all different ways to connect with people significant or otherwise. Her humor and lighthearted takes on relationship issues remove the stress from the ‘big problems’ and advocates listening with the third ear to understand and communicate with efficacy.

Dr A was so incredibly helpful during a very rough time I was having with my girlfriend. She coached me through it and I would recommend her to anyone going through the same thing.
