Hello! My name is Gretchen. Thank you for taking the time to read my profile.
Being an adolescent has never been easy. There's so much change going on all the time, and pressure to do well academically and socially. Teens today face even more challenges with the overwhelming pressures of social media and the constant stream of information from explicit television shows, movies, and graphic news stories. Because of these influences, teens are struggling with depression, anxiety, and relationship and self esteem problems in record numbers.
I believe that a counselor's role is to help support, challenge, and guide. It can take some time to build a relationship, and it's important for both parties to feel comfortable sharing information, asking questions, and identifying what tools and techniques are the most effective.
Whether this is your first experience with counseling, or you've worked with a counselor before, it's important to find someone you feel comfortable interacting with. All counselors and therapists must complete similar classes on counseling technique and theory, but everyone's style and experience is different. Some counselors have areas of specialty like trauma, anxiety, gender and sexuality issues, or anger management, or an interest in a particular age group. Others have additional training in art or music therapy or a specific counseling modality like Cognitive Behavior Therapy or Dialectic Behavioral Therapy. And, maybe most important of all, we have our own communication and counseling style; this often contributes the most to the relationships that we build.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Pennsylvania. I received my Masters in Social Work from Temple University, and also have a Masters in Business Administration. Most of my experience has been working with teens and young adults (through college-age). As a clinical social worker, I am required to complete continuing education every year. Much of my ongoing training has focused on adolescent health, trauma, grief, LGBTQIA issues, suicide, mood disorders, and bullying (including cyber bullying). Additional treatment issues that I work with include coping with change and life transitions, self esteem, parent-child relationships, anxiety, and stress. I typically work with individuals aged 14-40. I utilize elements of mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Strategic Family Therapy, solution focused brief therapy, life coaching, and psycho-education. I believe that treatment planning is a collaborative process, and work closely to develop a goal plan that is individualized and strengths based.
If you feel that my experience and style might be a good fit for your needs, I look forward to "meeting" you!

I am very happy with the help Gretchen has provided for my daughter, and have recommended her and thebsite to several of my friends who have teenage kids.
Shes very professional and keep it real... she listen and offers several ways to deal with an issue... she's great.. at times I just need to vent which prevent me from exploding at others
I have worked with Gretchen for over a year since my brothers death. I sought coping skills for grief and therapy for family relationships and marriage. In short I've come a long way thanks to Gretchen's guidance. She is very experienced, thoughtful, regularly checks in on progress, and gives encouragement. Still work left, but I'm much more capable of handling life's situations. And my relationships have improved and stabilized. I'd recommend Gretchen to anyone seeking similar guidance. It means very much to have her in my corner on my journey.
I have worked with Gretchen for over a year and I would highly recommend her. She is extremely proactive in following up with me and will always make time to talk. She is great at asking questions that help me find the right solution for me instead of telling me what to do. I have been able to build great skills with Gretchen and have had lots of personal growth in my anxiety and depression management over the past year. Thank you Gretchen!
Gretchen is very caring and she makes a point to check in throughout the week through the chat system. She also is great at sensing when I am covering up some of my issues. She can identify what the main concerns are and she gets right to the point. I like that she can be so on point with me. I’ve had therapists in the past who didn’t take charge and let me talk around my issues instead of identifying the actual problem. I love Gretchen.
Gretchen is great, professional, and very helpful.
My first month with Gretchen and I have made such an improvement in my stress, anxiety, and mindfulness. Her availability, flexibility, and kindness have been what I most appreciate about our relationship thus far. She goes beyond what I would've expected from online therapy and works with your style of communication. Wether through listening and counseling, behavioral therapy, or additional resources, Gretchen has helped empower me to make take back control of my anxiety and my mind.
Thankful for Gretchen’s commitment to my son. She’s been accommodating with scheduling and has provided very helpful feedback for us. I can see she’s making a positive impact on him.
Gretchen has been such a light in my life. She is thoughtful and thought provoking. She has provided me with resources and tools that have vastly improved my mindfulness and continue to help me in achieving my goals.
Very attentive and keeps the line of communication open.
Gretchen is kind, empathetic, intuitive, and, most importantly, present. When she's in session with you, she's all there. She's gentle and non-threatening, but she also knows when and how to give you a little push when you need it. I'd definitely recommend her as a counselor.
I recommend this experience with teen counseling and Gretchen Murchison any time someone talks to me about it. I couldn’t have managed therapy if it were not for this option. 10/10
Gretchen is a great person and counselor. She is very understanding yet holds me accountable. She has helped me tremendously!
Gretchen is fantastic. She checks in with me often and is very supportive. She provides me with extra resources as needed.
She's been amazing. You don't feel so alone and she's very good with responses. Someone you don't feel bad sending a novel to.
Gretchen has been fantastic. I suffer from a chronic illness and she is knowledgeable about it and was open to articles I suggested for her to better understand what I need from counseling.
Ms. Murchison is fire!
Gretchen has been a very good listener. She has caught up really well with my problems that had been going on for over a year before I even started counseling with her. She says that the problem (my relationship) is rather complicated and she has been giving me good advice and I feel so much more confident. I really thank her for being patient and understanding.
Gretchen is perfect she is just what I needed.
Gretchen is an amazing counselor who has helped me feel very comfortable to talk about things that are hard to open up about. She has a great balance of calming worries that I may have through plain conversation and giving facts about my concerns to let me know that I am not the only person feeling these things. I strongly suggest Gretchen as a counselor to anyone who is in need of any sort of guidance.
Gretchen offers such phenomenal support. She's so responsive and she asks questions that really help me process what I'm dealing with in a way that doesn't feel pushy or critical. She's very kind and warm, and I feel that she genuinely cares about my wellbeing.
Gretchen understood me almost immediately. With empathy, warmth and humor, she made me feel comfortable to share aspects of my life that I so desperately needed to find help and understanding. It has made a huge difference in my outlook and I feel so much healthier!
Gretchen has been extremely helpful in more ways than one. She has taught me new and better ways with communication, controlling my emotions or anger and getting back to basics with my own life that I can control. She is helpful with stressful situations and constantly showing me ways to think clearly and calmly.
Gretchen is a very sweet and supportive person. She has helped me to set goals and take steps small, specific, and meaningful steps to reach each one. She will encourage you to overcome your challenges as well as provide you with resources you may need to help you be successful.
I enjoy talking to Gretchen as she not only offers understanding for issues I face but also presents possible ways that I can fix the problem. When I signed up for teencounseling.com, I mainly was looking for someone to help me COPE with my anxiety and depression as I knew that if I could cope, I could manage. She offers many suggestions and often asks the right questions that help me come to a solution without directly telling me how to address things. She informed me in the first few moments of talking when she was available to speak immediately and when she looked at her sessions. I quickly became used to answering her in the evening, reading her response in the morning, answering her in the afternoon and reading her response after work. It is a nice set up and she doesn't leave conversations unattended. I highly recommend her based on her methods and communication.
Gretchen has changed my entire perspective on counseling. She’s supportive and truly cares about her clients, and I’m very happy she’s here to help me.
