Dr. Emily Christensen

(PhD, LPC, LCPC)

About Me

I am a doctoral level licensed clinical professional counselor. My education background includes a Bachelor of Science in Human Development, a Master of Science in Professional Counseling, and a Doctorate of Psychology in Marriage and Family Therapy. I have twenty years experience as a counselor, with two years experience providing counseling online, helping adolescents navigate life, its hardships, and its challenges. This experience includes ten years treating adolescents in residential hospitals, fifteen years working with families and adolescents in community based-settings, and eight years working with children and adolescents in school-based settings.

Some of my specialties include depression, anxiety, and mood disorders. I have also a great deal of experience working with those who have endured trauma and abuse. I also have extensive experience with VIP clients and high profile cases.

I myself am married with six children, all with different special needs, and all adopted from foster care. My husband and I fostered 85 children over the years, and so I know the hard work of parenting as much as the authentic spirits of adolescents. My counseling style is warm and interactive, but with positive accountability to encourage healthy changes. I believe in treating anyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion - no matter what emotional processing is being worked through or expressed. Having been originally trained in Jungian and narrative therapies in classic psychoanalysis, your story matters to me and matters in its telling. My approach also combines cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, and rational-emotive counseling for a trauma-responsive approach that provides support and healing. Your treatment plan will be tailored to meet your unique and specific needs.

It takes courage to seek for a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you.

I look forward to working with you!

Dr. Christensen is so professional and comforting. She was very up front with me in explaining her services and when she would be available. She told me when I should expect to hear from her and lets me know if ever she will be away.
She has been such a calm voice of reason in my life recently and I am so grateful for her support. I would highly recommend her to anyone who is considering counseling.

I just recently began therapy with Dr. Christensen, and she has already been tremendously helpful. She’s very organized with her schedule so I always knows when she is available. I can send her a message on her off days and know she will respond soon enough. She’s always checking up on me, which shows her dedication. I trust Dr. Christensen already and have faith that her expertise will help bring me to a better place. Her words are kind yet honest, which is exactly what I need. I feel she listens to me and takes in everything I say. She is an expert, nonetheless.

Dr. Christensen is very knowledgeable and has shown the compassion I have needed for a long time to be able to explain how the things in my life and my response have made my life difficult for me. She has established a trusting relationship with me to the point that she is able to help me change my thinking and way of relating so that I am helped out of the trouble I have been having in relationships. Balancing truth with love and faithfulness, she has helped me a lot.
