My name is Dr. D!
I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the state of California. I am also a Certified Parent Trainer. I trained parents to compassionately cope with the various challenges they were experiencing with their children, including gang issues, truancy, divorce and poor peer or sibling relationships.
I am a Multicultural Expert, which means I am Certified to empathically help people of various backgrounds who are experiencing challenges related or not related to their culture, ethnicity or race, regardless of where they are from or how they identify themselves.
I also have experience with depression, anxiety, motivation, self-esteem issues and behavioral problems. I worked in a non profit where I helped facilitate group sessions for 6-8 year olds, 9-12 year olds as well as a 13-17 year old group.
In these groups we helped youth navigate hurdles such as: academic issues, social struggles, anxiety, depression, peer pressure, bullying, insecurities and most importantly, we helped strengthen the child/parent relationship.
I have many years of experience as a Psychologist for kids in two school districts and the Juvenile Division of the Police Department. I love working with youth of all ages and I have experience in a wide range of challenges that youth face.
I have been described as patient, insightful, funny and compassionate, yet direct. I approach most therapy sessions from a cognitive behavioral approach unless there is some history of trauma, then I use a trauma focused treatment modality and/or IFS (Internal Family Systems). I may also use Guided Meditation and Mindfulness depending on the challenges presented.
I allow the client's need to direct and guide how our session goes. With adolescents there has to be a buy in or there will be little to no cooperation. I aim to help the client see their role in the situation they are in and then ultimately gain the power to change their current situation.
I look forward to working with you,

Dr. Purcell is everything I have been looking for in a therapist. She is extremely knowledgeable and professional, in addition to being kind and compassionate. Her expertise spans beyond mental health and into nutrition, offering a wholistic diagnosis of well-being. She offers tangible tools so that I feel empowered to make a difference in my own life, and in the short amount of time I've been working with her I've already seen such a big difference in the way I think. I would highly recommend Dr. Purcell!
Dr. Purcell has been a great resource during a very difficult time for my teenage daughter as she’s battling MDD and anxiety. She’s flexible with our scheduling needs, is an extra safe place for my daughter to communicate about her emotions and I believe this has helped our family maintain communication during some very difficult circumstances. Thank you Dr. P for your kind care and tremendous expertise and efficacy with adolescents!
Dr. Purcell has been super helpful during my recovery. I couldn’t imagine therapy with anyone else. I look forward to our sessions together.
Dr. Purcell is awesome!!! Finally someone who understands me.
Dr. Purcell made me feel see and heard throughout our sessions together and always provided effective feedback. Her mind-body approach was very effective and I'm really grateful for the tools she taught me. I've decided to step away from the platform for financial reasons, but will certainly look up Dr. Purcell again if I feel the need to seek out counseling again!
Really helpful and supportive. I would definitely recommend to friends and family.
Dr. Purcell has been a great help to me. She is very responsive to my issues and takes a very proactive approach to helping me both in understanding what the source my issues might be and in offering me a wide variety of tools to work on them.
With the 3 sessions I’ve had with Dr. Purcell, she has pointed me on a path that I wish I could have started years ago. She give actionable goals that are easy to keep up with and help keep you grounded. She listens to you and give great advise on what to do.
