About me

About my work with Teens

Hello, my name is Connie Champion and I enjoy assisting families to reduce their daily stressors. I am a licensed professional counselor in the State of Wisconsin. I worked specifically with children and adolescents at Ethan Allen Boys School for approximately 8 years. Later in my practice, I provided therapy to teens and their parents, particularly with anxiety, depression, bullying, substance use, self-esteem, grief, suicidal ideations, and crisis. Therapy can support your teen through a variety of situations, such as self-discovery, stress, life events, or mental health issues. As a collaborative team, our aim will be to better understand and express your teen’s feelings, identify and solve problems and develop healthy coping mechanisms.

I can provide your teen with individual talk therapy in a safe environment and can also provide support to parents in need of advice. I am versed at using a variety of electronic media, which will further assist us in increasing the speed of my responses as well as the number of quality communication options. I have degrees in social work, mental health therapy, and substance use disorders. I believe that I am able to provide my clients with quality care, privacy, and a variety of evidence based therapies all of which are provided in a safe and nonjudgmental environment. My goal is to meet your teen were they are at, as not all clients are necessarily ready for change. Developing a healthy rapport while encouraging honest communication can set the stage for an approach to change your teen can take ownership in. I sincerely look forward to working with your family.

Connie does an excellent job of helping me come up with short- and long-term plans to address my issues/concerns. It’s refreshing to have someone not only listen, but actively work with you towards your goals.

Connie has a good rapport with our teenage son. He was anxious about having therapy but she worked with him over time, at his pace.

I've got nothing but great things to say about Connie.

I came to her after struggling for years with, what I would come to find out, a food addiction. Connie helped me frame my thoughts in a correlative way to that of addiction and helped provide me with the emotional tools and support to be able to work through that. This included mindfulness strategies, grounding techniques, and other types of support.

Additionally, she helped me work through some pretty severe death anxiety and allowed me the opportunity to express my concerns and then would ask probing questions that encouraged me to think a little deeper about why this was occurring. From there, she provided strategies that allowed me to frame what I was feeling in a different way, which made coping with this a lot easier.

Overall, Connie takes the approach of simply listening and then encouraging the dialog to continue. There were many moments of "aha!" which would completely shift how I would think about something. Most importantly, she made me feel as though, regardless of how I was feeling, this was all a very normal part of human existence, and that went a long way toward helping me feel more "human" and less alone in whatever struggle I was facing.

This was my first experience with therapy and in a lot of ways I regret not doing this sooner. I'm finally at a point where I feel like I have better control over my emotions and less like I'm simply along for the ride. I have Connie to thank for helping me get there, and I'll forever be grateful to her.

Connie has been so wonderful and she really, truly listens to you. She helps you realize that you have a lot of tools, and then helps supplement those tools. She is a wonderful support and so easy to talk to. She summaries the sessions In your words, which allows you to just talk and get those feelings out. I highly recommend Connie.
