Christy Sutton

(MAMHC, LMHC, NCC)

About Me

Hi! My name is Christy Sutton. I'm a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) in the State of Indiana and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). I received my master’s degree from Argosy University, a CACREP accredited program in mental health counseling.

My theoretical approach is client-centered in providing a laid back, safe, and non-judgmental atmosphere. I utilize evidence-based practices to support, encourage, educate, and empower my clients. My approach is collaborative and fluid in identifying goals and address them in ways that work best for you. Collaboration plays an important role as we work together to increase awareness, communication, personal growth and healing within yourself and your relationships. I believe it is important to focus on my client’s strengths to assist them in identifying coping strategies to address cognitive distortions and negative behaviors. I utilize multiple evidence-based therapeutic techniques while emphasizing the importance of self-care creating a healthier and happier lifestyle.

I have served as a home based therapist and school based therapist in assisting adolescents and their families with mental health and behavioral concerns. I have been trained to help adolescents who have experienced trauma, abuse, neglect, and social issues. I use a collaborative approach in helping teens and their families in many settings within their own homes, schools and within the community. I have assisted parents through education of different parenting styles and effective responses with the goal being to strengthen the family unit and improve their communication skills. My experience over the last five years includes providing individual, family, and group therapy in home-based, school-based, community-based, and traditional settings for children, adolescents, and families. My experience has provided me with opportunities in serving and directly engaging with military members and their families and have assisted people with a wide range of mental health needs in the development of skills to manage emotional distress and create a positive life perspective.

Please feel free to contact me should you have questions or would like to talk more.

Christy is amazing! She responds fairly quickly and gives some great resources to help with mental health. We've done one video call so far and it was so good to chat and get some help on good self care practices. I already feel like I'm making progress and it's only been a month!

Christy has been terrific in letting me get through my current issues so we can see where we are at, but then talking about how we can go back to the beginning to see how we got here. She understands my desire to understand and change behavior. I can't recommend her enough to help get through those times.

Talking with Christy is like talking to an old friend. I feel more than heard, I feel understood. She is both realistic and relatable in her methods. Although I have only had two sessions with her so far, I truly value her opinions and reccomendations.
