About Me

Hello! My name is Amy Halter and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor licensed in the state of Pennsylvania. I have been practicing as a counselor for 15 years. I specialize in anxiety, depression, overall life stress and relationship issues. I have worked with teens in an outpatient and home setting to address behavioral concerns, parent/child conflict and overall teen issues. I utilize cognitive behavior therapy and together we will focus on changing negative thoughts in order to change behaviors. I also utilize solution focused therapy in that we will focus on what is currently working in your life and we can apply it to areas in your life that you identify are not working.

The teenage years can be challenging for teens as well as their parents as they face new pressures, and may not always react in the healthiest ways to the problems they encounter. Some of the struggles teens face are a normal part of growing up like dealing with peer groups, experimenting with new ideas and going through changes in mood, identity and interests. Parents can help their teens with some of these issues by talking to them, being patient with them and creating an environment that is structured and supportive as well as recognizing the warning signs so that a counselor can be brought in to work with the family and the teen.
I have worked with children ages 0-21 as well as their families in school, at home and in the community for approximately 15 years. I have successfully helped teens and their families navigate difficulties and improve relationships and communication. I have provided guidance and support for families navigating different systems of care for their children as well as help communicate their needs and wants to school staff, social workers and other professionals to ensure their children are getting their specific needs me

I look forward to talking with you soon-Amy

I have been working with Amy for about two weeks and so far our counseling together has been great. She shares about herself and own experiences as a way to connect. I feel that she hears my experiences, concerns, thoughts, and feelings and is able to convey empathy and understanding. She spends time listening to me, organizing my thoughts and experiences, and offering some insights on ways to work towards healthier coping. I appreciate that she is very human, and builds rapport and a connection. I would recommend work with Amy to others.

In a short time, I already feel more comfortable and at ease with Amy than the counselor I was seeing prior to beginning counseling through teen counseling. At the time of writing this review, last night I was beginning to become really anxious and panicky over being an essential employee, a new order in my state that all residents have to wear masks in businesses, and the thought of having to enforce that policy at the store I work in. Amy took time out of her day to talk with me over the phone, to verbalize my feelings and what has been going on in my mind. She has come across to me as very understanding, sympathetic and non-judgmental, and I am eager to continue working with her as time goes on.

Amy seems to understand me. I have a hard time clicking with the correct therapist for me. It took me several tries, most important I think, is to just keep trying.

Amy is always checking in which I love with my busy schedule. I like talking to her because it's like talking to my best friend but she has a lot more experience with my mental health needs.

Amy is wonderful! I've only been talking to her for a short time but she makes me feel comfortable which makes it easy to be open. Something I've struggled with in the past. She is quick to respond and always with thoughtful and kind words. I feel lucky to be working with her :)

Amy is responsive and quickly got to the point; which is so appreciated. She summed up a lot of my frustration over family issues; in one paragraph. Which other therapists would have stretched over hours of in person sessions. Highly recommended.

Amy is a very friendly, open, and personable counselor who has provided with me with much needed opportunities to express myself and my struggles. I wish I had more time to write about her more thoroughly, but I most certainly do not regret our time together.
